Sunbox is an innovation directly derived from our framework that was built from 10 weeks of primary research through interviews, surveys, and public interactive focus groups. Sunbox is a countertop appliance that uses UV radiation to chemically break down small or thin plastics, such as single use plastics, into carbon and trace amounts of carbon dioxide.
By learning to use Sunbox, people will become more knowledgeable about microplastics as well as plastics in general. They will gain the ability to control where some of their plastic ends up without having to rely on processes or institutions they don’t trust or understand.
